The ISP Exetel in Australia has finished their first trial with using NetClean WhiteBox.
We are very impresses how they have handled all communication around the trial by using their Forum to communicate with their customers. You can read the thread here.
You can read their result below:
- 20,000 active hits against the filter list
- no false positives
- no measurable impact on any Exetel router
- no impact on Internet access to non blocked sites for any Exetel user
- there were 56 problems reported that users attributed to the filter trial, each on investigation was a ‘harbour tunnel’ effect
- three people threatened to cancel their Exetel service(s) because of the trial

Below is a chart from their result. It is traffic to the NetClean WhiteBox over time. It is not surprising for anyone that their is a peak from 0 to 2 AM. It might be a little bit surprising of the peeks during the day, but our experience is that it is not that surprising. Because people have time during lunch hours or afternoon break, we can see an increase of traffic or use of child abuse material during these times.
